Many of us like to be warm at home preparing a good meal. Are you ready to find some mouth-watering recipes? Keep reading and you will find them!

For us, the best autumn recipes are sweet potato chips as a starter Ingredients (For 4 people), Trinidad stewed lentils as a main course Ingredients (For 4 people), and finally, a sweet and delightful Sharon fruit jam Ingredients (For 4 people)!

The starter: Sweet potato chips

Ingredients (For 4 people)

  • 4 sweet potatoes

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika.

  • Olive oil

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Step 2: While the oven heats up, wash and dry the sweet potatoes before cutting them. Make sure that the pieces are the same size. This way, they will be cooked evenly.

Step 3: Combine all of the spices, sprinkle them on the sweet potatoes, and gently incorporate the spices with your hands.

Step 4: Arrange the spiced sweet potatoes on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and bake for 30 minutes at 200 degrees.

The main course: Trinidad stewed lentils

Ingredients (For 4 people)

  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar (optional)

  • 1 cup of regular brown lentils

  • 1 onion

  • 3 carrots

  • 2 tomatoes

  • 2 sticks of celery

  • 1 green pepper

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • ½ teaspoon of Annatto/ Achiote

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 3 cups of water

Step 1: To get some tasty and warm lentils, we are going to start by chopping all the vegetables. With the help of a chopping-board and a knife, we are going to chop the onion, the carrots, the tomatoes, the sticks of celery, the green pepper, and finally the cloves of garlic. Once everything is diced, put the chopped vegetables to one side.

Step 2: Put a pot over medium heat. Once hot, you can add the brown sugar. Hey! Be careful, don’t let it burn. Heat the sugar until it turns dark. Be aware that this step is optional. We like to add some sugar to get a little sweetness in the dish.

Step 3: When the sugar begins to darken, add the lentils and all of the chopped vegetables. Remember to mix it with a spatula until you see a lovely color develop. We are going to keep mixing the ingredients over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.

Step 4: After these 5 minutes, we are going to add 3 cups of water, the salt, and the annatto. That will give us this stewed color that we love! Let it boil for 30 minutes until you can see that the lentils are tender.

And now it's time to enjoy your Trinidad stewed lentils! A perfect dish for those rainy days!

Last but not least, we are going to make Sharon fruit jam, also called kaki or persimmon. Whichever you call it, if you follow these steps, you are going to get a yummy jam for your afternoon snacks with a little bit of bread or for a good breakfast!

Sharon Fruit Jam

Ingredients (For 4 people)

  • 10 spoons of sugar

  • 6 sharon fruits

Step 1: Remove the bottom leaves from the sharon fruit. Once you have your sharon fruits cleaned, you can blend the fruits until you get a smooth and liquid texture.

Step 2: In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and blended fruit. Using a medium heat, let it cook for 15-20 minutes.

Step 3: Allow to cool before transferring to a nice jar.
